London Restaurant Review – Avenue, St James’s

Bottomless brunch has become a massive trend in London this year. If I could pinpoint where the trend comes from, I would say we could thank our American cousins, (who are nuts for a bottomless brunch, check out brunchsf to see what I’m talking about) and also the mad, day-long bottomless brunch extravaganzas that take place in the Middle East, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi leading the pack. It’s crazy to think that countries that are so religiously adherent in some ways then make a name for themselves with the Bacchanalian delights that westerners travel to indulge in. Anyway, I digress. Let me tell you about Avenue restaurant.

Review – Maverick, SW1W 0QP

‘Sometimes the drudgery of 9 to 5 makes me long for the simpler times of serfdom’, I commented to my colleague on the way to lunch at Maverick. His response? Gales of disbelieving laughter. But quite honestly, wouldn’t it be better? You wouldn’t have to commute, you knew who was boss, there was no need to be competitive and HMRC didn’t exist. There were no mid-year performance reviews. On the downside, there was also no pizza.

Review – Clutch, E2 7QG

Hey G&J friends, fancy some finger lickin’ fried chicken? ‘Course you do, fried chicken is the biggest thing on the London food scene since the Great Gourmet Burger War started in 2011. I love a new opening Dear Reader and this one is about as fresh as it gets. Milkmade is East Village’s new American-style diner set in an unusual industrial space, serving up fried chicken and waffles and unique cocktails.
